Najo Team wants to create moments of poetic communication. This means not only "creating" but also searching, finding, discovering, trying, proposing, experimenting. We don't want to limit ourselves to just "art", "performance" or any specific means of presentation, expression or action. We don't care to be or call ourselves "artists" or "professionals" because neither we, nor anyone else, needs that. It's rather an obstacle and limits our perspective. We try everything that we are interested in, regardless if it leads to "art".

Why?

We want to deepen, explore and expand our imagination, perception and experience, which we don't think are given at any moment. It's also inevitably a way of breaking down, or at least bypass, repression in different ways. Prejudice and habit are some of the forms repression can take. We follow our passions, pleasures and curiosity in this work. We wish to surprise ourselves. We wish to rise our consciousness. Public presentation continues the work into a wider social interaction, with aspects of proposition, inspiration, confrontation and development of ideas as well as of sensibility. Success in our eyes is the results from this multi-layered interaction, the appearance of exalting images, the stir into psychological and social realities, the challenge of thinking, perception and living habits. Revelation, unusual beauties, and awakening inspiration or at least confusion and awe.

How?

By any means necessary. Until now we've made composed works of different kinds, we have and are using free associations, chance, games, improvisation etc. depending on the choice in each new project. We're not against symbols but we reject symbolism as a code for messages. We have involved personal experiences and "ideological" opinions in our work which doesn't mean it's about private or ideological concerns only. Our main concern and method is poetical.

What's the difference between Najo Team and the Surrealist Group in Szczecin?

In terms of people, we at this moment consist of the same individuals. However, while the Surrealist Group is part of the international Surrealist Movement (and might be expanded at any time with new members), Najo Team is a working team much more dependent on the present individuals and their working methods. Najo Team can act in different circumstances that we choose, for example purely artistic ones like a performance festival (which would be out of the question for a Surrealist Group). Then we act from our interests and sensibilities as people (although surrealist people), not as representatives of a Surrealist Group. Moreover, when we move to a different location we consider us belonging to the Surrealist Group at that location, such as the Surrealist Group in Stockholm, or, if we are alone, we might simply rename our group (if it's still just us) to the city or area in question. However, Najo Team will remain regardless of where we are or act as surrealists. (We're not theoretically alien to the idea that Najo Team, too, might include new members in the future, who might or might not be surrealists.)
